Registration process

You can register at any point up until the end of Stage 3! This is an open tournament. Any organisation, society, school or club from any country is entitled to participate.

Deadline: 19th June

Stage 1

(8th March– 10th April)

only complete applications can be accepted
a cap of 3 teams per country will be applied
one slot per country is always reserved for the national team according to WSDC rules, otherwise
the principle of first come – first served will be applied

Stage 2

(11st April – 29th May)

the team cap per country will be removed (any number of teams from a particular country may now be admitted)
if viable, teams with too few adjudicators may be admitted (based on the number of registered independent judges)
slots can be booked for teams with incomplete registrations due to missing information (e.g. passport number)

Stage 3

(30th May – 19th June)

the completion of all required procedures and information will be required
an ultimate decision concerning participation will be required from undecided teams
teams without adjudicators may be admitted, if viable
if necessary, a deposit may be required (HOEDT fees will likely be requested on arrival in full, though, without prior deposits)

Applications can be submitted during any stage.

Roles

Team Members

A Team Member is a student eligible to debate for their team according to the rules of the tournament that has been chosen by the sending organisation. This does not include students who are ineligible to debate according to the rules, nor does it include students who do not intend to debate as part of the team. Hence no "reserve" or non-debating members are allowed. Those can participate as observers.

As for the general team cap, the total number of teams who apply for accommodation should not exceed 60. Total number of teams from one country should not exceed 3 in the first stage. In case you would like to come with more than 3 teams inform the organizer at registrations@heart-of-europe.org.

Registration fee: 160 € per debater

Team Coach and Team Manager

The Team Coach and Team Manager may be the same person but there must be someone who is coaching and someone who is the Team Manager, either two separate people or one person. Team Coach and Team Manager can participate also in the capacity of Judge. Both the Team Coach and Team Manager must be responsible adults who are over 18. The Team Manager and Team Coach must accompany the team to every debate and amongst other things officially represents the team in communication with any members of the Organising Committee.

Registration fee: 160 € per Coach or Manager (if not judging, otherwise see below)

Judge

A Judge is a person who is familiar with the rules of the tournament who will attend the judges training and assessment sessions and judge whatever debates the Chief Adjudicator of the tournament may reasonably ask them to judge. The n+1 rule per delegation is applied.

Observer

Each team has an option to bring an unlimited number of observers to attend the tournament. Any other individuals can participate as observers, provided they adhere to the Code of Ethics of the tournament.
